It's because your credentials are far better than a retail person in a department store. Not sure what was applied for but they don't want to go to the expense of training someone they feel will leave as soon as a job opens up that they are far more qualified for academically. Sad but true and not logical in the state of the present economy. Teaching or the medical field seem to be somewhat open for those who have the training.
I believe ya about the temporary nature of the position and a company's fear of my leaving. However, in small town GA without my bar results I can do anything but retail or the like and I am precluding myself by educating myself. Just sucks.

My brother has a masters degree, and cant find a job to save his life. Detroit is a brutal place to find work. I feel for ya. It's hard all over.
